Mazda Sweeps New York Daily News Auto Awards

2016 Mazda CX-3
2016 Mazda CX-3

In the first annual New York Daily News Auto Awards, Mazda won in five of sixteen categories, making it the most-winning auto brand on the list. The awards are chosen by a distinguished and diverse panel of nine judges with over 100 years of experience and a variety of ages for categories like City Car, Family Car, and Green Machine.

Mazda won awards for City SUV, Small Car, Small SUV, Family Car, and Fun Car. With only 8 models in their line-up, this is a pretty big deal! The small CX-3 was named the best City SUV, while the fuel-efficient compact Mazda3 won the Small Car award. The CX-5 took the Small SUV category, and the Mazda6 won best Family Car due to its affordability and spaciousness.

The editor of Daily News Autos Nick Kurczewski aims to award cars based on what really matters in each category instead of small factors like top speed times. Featuring both practical cars and reach cars, these awards are meant to help drivers make more informed buying decisions.  These awards show Mazda’s goal to create practical, yet fun to drive vehicles.  To find out more about these award winning models, stop by Mazda of Lake Charles today!

New Mazda CX-9 Gets it First Major Refresh Since its First Introduction

2016 Mazda CX-9

We have been waiting for the latest release of the 2016 Mazda CX-9, and we finally have found out why we had to wait so long for the new Mazda CX-9.  The CX-9 was brought to the Mazda Lineup in 2007 and this Mazda CX-9 marks the beginning of its second generation.

So with its first major update, what can we expect from this renovated SUV?  Well, one thing that stands out about the new CX-9 is that it’s focus is NOT on power.  You might think this is a bad thing, but Mazda has always had a method to their madness when it come to engineering their vehicles.  Mazda wants the CX-9 to focus on the comfort of driving as well as the preciseness of the handling.

This focus as allowed for Mazda to create an SUV that is quiet, smooth, and precise in maneuvering.  According to Consumer Reports, the new CX-9 drives with an “underlying firmness… that makes the 2016 Mazda CX-9 feel crisp and alert.  And yet, the suspension effectively manages to absorb and filter out bumps and ruts – an impressive feat…”

It is clear that Mazda wants to bring excite to their vehicles in ways other than through horsepower and engine.  However, that doesn’t mean their Skyactiv engine is lacking by any means!

What do you think?  Would you give up a little extra power behind the wheel for a little more comfort on the roads?  Tell us about it at Mazda of Lake Charles!

Next Mazda RX Model May Come with a Turbocharged Rotary Engine

Mazda Engine
2014 Mazda MX-5 Engine

What’s better than a rotary engine? A turbocharged rotary engine, of course! And of all the automakers out there, you can already guess which one is most likely to deliver that kind of automotive motivation: Mazda.

The high-revving rotary Wankel engine used to be something of a specialty for the Japanese automaker; in fact, it still is, though Mazda hasn’t built any since 2012 other than for single seater racing.  We haven’t seen this kind of engine outside of the racing world for Mazda in a while.

That might be about to change, though. Mazda has been dropping hints about a new rotary-powered sports car for a while now, which would be the first it produces since the RX-8. However, it hasn’t made a turbocharged rotary-powered car since the RX-7.

Rumored specs include a two-rotor layout, a 1.6-liter displacement, a two-stage electric turbo and hybrid powertrain, and a total output of 450 horsepower. All of those sound like excellent numbers to us at Mazda of Lake Charles. Let’s hope they build it!

What do you think?  Would you be interested in a Mazda model that comes with a Turbocharged Rotary Engine?

In the Race for Autonomous Vehicles, Mazda is Sitting This One Out.

Pleasant Drive through the Country

Nowadays it seems that all automakers can talk about is the race to create autonomous vehicles.  The idea that a car will drive itself seems to be a luxury that we can afford and makes us feel part of the future.  So, in a world of automakers where all the big names like Ford, Nissan, and even other brands outside the automotive world like Google are fighting to be the first to create it, why is Mazda sitting this one out?

The answer is, Mazda isn’t creating vehicles for the convenience of the driver, or to get a driver from point A to point B; Mazda is creating cars that enhance the experience of driving and give people a feeling of freedom when they drive!  If cars drive themselves, we lose that freedom that we have gained by creating the vehicle in the first place.

So with all the other brands racing to win big with cars that drive themselves, Mazda is working to perfect the driving experience as a whole.  With Mazda’s completely reinvented engine that gets better gas mileage than ever before, and the smooth relaxing ride of their vehicle, this auto brand is trying to reinvent the way people feel about driving, as opposed to changing the way people drive.

Tell us what you think at Mazda of Lake Charles.  Do you think Mazda is on to something with reinventing the way vehicles drive?  Instead of making vehicles drive themselves?  Or are you looking forward to not having to drive your next vehicle?

2016 Mazda CX-5

Mazda has announced a 2016.5 model upgrade for the refreshed 2016 Mazda CX-5, which is already one of the most popular crossovers on the market, thanks to its upscale interior, exciting driving, and high-tech infotainment system.  These upgrades will make this popular SUV even more exciting!

Mazda3 and MX-5 Miata Honored in Car and Driver 10Best Awards

2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata
2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata

Car and Driver has unveiled its annual list of the 10Best Cars, and two of them are Mazda vehicles: the 2016 Mazda3 and the 2016 MX-5 Miata. If you think that’s a strong showing, you’re right—for the last three years, Mazda is the only automaker to have taken two spots on the Car and Driver 10Best list.  With only a handful of vehicles in their line-up, this shows even more about the quality of Mazda!

It’s also the sixth time and 14th time, respectively that the Mazda3 sedan and MX-5 roadster have earned a Car and Driver 10Best honor since the two vehicles were introduced to the road.

The 2016 Mazda3 was featured for being a jack-of-all-trades, master of all. It combines fun-to-drive handling, powerful yet efficient SKYACTIV engines, and one of the sleekest designs you’ll find on a sedan today. It’s one of the most popular models at Mazda of Lake Charles, and for good reason.

The all-new 2016 Mazda MX-5 has been impressing everybody since its rebirth, with more efficiency and performance than ever before, more amenities and technology features, and less weight. Just like the original MX-5, it delivers a perfect 50-50 distribution of weight from front to back, contributing to handling dynamics that are both iconic and exciting.

What to Do When Your Car Won’t Start

Car Battery

If you get into your driver’s seat and find that your car won’t start, there are a few things you can do to troubleshoot the problem and figure out your next steps. There are a lot of reasons for a car to refuse to turn on, but they’re easy to distinguish from each other.

If you try to turn your key and nothing happens, this usually indicates a problem with the battery terminal cable connections. If this is the case, you may be able to start the car by lodging a screwdriver with an insulated handle between the connector and the terminal post, but that’s a short term solution. You need to get the cables replaced.

When the car makes a clicking noise and won’t start, that’s indicative of a dead battery. Here’s when you call your buddy or find a good Samaritan to help you jump start the battery. It would also be a good thing to keep jumper cables in your car if you (or someone else) ever need to have a jump!

If the engine starts but dies, you’ll probably need professional help if you have a car with fuel injection instead of a carburetor. Either way, if you’re having these issues, it’s best to check with a mechanic or your dealer.  Stop by and see us at Mazda of Lake Charles in our Service department and we can help you get the right service for whatever the reason your car isn’t starting!

All-New Mazda CX-9 Crossover Set to Debut at Los Angeles Auto Show

2016 Mazda CX-9

Mazda announced early this month that it will unveil its all-new Mazda CX-9 crossover SUV at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show, which will take place from Friday, November 20 to Sunday, November 29, and we can’t wait to see it!

The CX-9 is a three-row mid-size crossover SUV and will include the latest SKYACTIV technologies as well as KODO Soul of Motion design. Mazda says the CX-9 is one of a planned lineup of more luxurious cars that embody the “feeling of life imbued by KODO.”   Here at Mazda of Lake Charles, we are hopeful that this SUV will be as great (and hopefully better!) than the 2016 Mazda CX-3 and CX-5!

The announcement of the CX-9 being unveiled in Los Angeles later this month came right on the heels of Mazda’s reveal of the RX-VISION concept at the Tokyo Motor Show, another vehicle built on the KODO design concept and powered by Mazda’s futuristic SKYACTIV-R rotary engine.

The RX-VISION is a sporty car with rear-wheel drive, fulfilling a different niche than the CX-9. Mazda says the CX-9 and RX-VISION are what they hope to base the future of their brand around.  Although we don’t know exactly what to expect from the RX-Vision concept, or the new CX-9, but we know that it will be great!  Tell us what you think about these two upcoming models/concepts!
