According to Automotive News, “Today’s Mazda looks stronger than ever.” Part of that success has to do with the automaker’s relatively new CEO, Masamichi Kogai. He joined the team in 2013 and has outlined a strategy to help Mazda continue growing.
The plan is to look at other places to put resources than new models. He’s said flat-out that Mazda will not be reviving the RX Sports car series. Mazda currently offers seven models and Kogai would like to focus on improving what the brand has already.
This largely means improving Mazda’s Skyactiv technology in current models, which is ultimately “a variety of technologies behind a more efficient powertrain, lightweight body and sportier chassis.” Kogai believes that Skyactiv is what sets Mazda’s lineup apart from the rest of the market.
The other hallmark of Kogai’s strategy is to focus on the spectrum of Mazda’s offerings, not to rely on one flagship model.
